Once you have entered the castle you are presented with a multitude of new places to discover. You can browse the castle shop, which may be a modern building but still beautifully constructed to complement the historic castle walls. You can also visit the North Dam through a small archway; from here you can venture around the outskirts of the castle and view the reconstruction of the weaponry which would have been used hundreds of years ago. Perhaps you would prefer to visit the exhibition room held in the tower originally known as ‘Wassail Tower’. You can continue your journey by crossing a second bridge to enter the inner ward where you will find the great hall and state apartments, known by some as ‘the central island’.
